Only cable's History Channel would be able to persuade Roger Daltrey, lead singer for the Who, to be the central figure in a reality series which arduously retraced famous historical journeys. On each week's episode, the grousing but game Daltrey linked up with a team of experts "on location" at places throughout the U.S. (and in later episodes, the world), where hardy souls of earlier ages had taken on and conquered various expeditions and explorations. Using the techniques and tools of the periods being recreated, Daltrey and company followed in the footsteps of John Wesley Powell along the Colorado River, Lewis and Clark westward from St. Louis to the Pacific, and 18th century pioneers along the Chisholm Trail.
